Finding your Tarot path

For many people, getting involved in the world of Tarot seems like a frightening, mysterious endeavor. You're not sure what others will think, you may not even be sure what you’re thinking. It's familiar to you, yet there's so much you still don't know.Through the years, Tarot reading has been depicted in movies, TV, and books as weird, creepy, and sometimes evil. You might have run into a strange reader at the fairgrounds that made you feel uneasy. You might even go to a church that believes the cards possess some power of evil. You'll find many writings refer to it as that. And like any journey - you should begin by making a plan. It should be a loosely defined plan with lots of room for adjustment, because as you continue on your path, many new ways of travel will come into focus.  Start at the library. There you'll find many books about Tarot, the history, philosophy, reading, etc. Look for the parts that really interest you, this will help light your path. There is a vast amount of information on the internet. Do a little homework before buying your first deck. It will light so many other avenues of study for you. Ultimately, it's the study of the cards that give them so much power. Now that you know a little bit more - you will want to buy a deck and work with them often. Get familiar with the feel of them, the weight, the texture, andmost importantly the imagery. There are many schools of thought about which decks are for beginners, which decks have the purest symbolism and so on. Since it is your journey, the cards should be right for you. You will form your own opinions about the correctness of it all as you get deeper into your study. But for right now, you are taking something of a very esoteric nature, demystifying it and making it your own. Buy the deck that speaks most to you. If the deck comes with a detailed book from the artist, so much the better. When questions arise about how to read a certain card, you will want their notions about the symbolism in addition to the traditional ideas of what that card means.
