Ghosts of Pleasanton's past line the downtown. Tales of underground tunnels, murders, speakeasies and brothels have haunted — and entertained — locals for years. From the Gay 90's Pizza Company and its ghost of a brothel madame to the Pleasanton Hotel and its ghosts of gamblers and prostitutes past, ghost stories are part of the lore of more than a dozen buildings along Main Street.Every October in recent years, people from all over the Bay Area have made the pilgrimage to Pleasanton to experience the city's paranormal atmosphere for themselves. When the October 2008 tour rolls around, the ghost stories will have a measure of validation, backed by visual and audio evidence gathered this past summer by Gloria Young, a Northern California ghost hunter. What started as a two-weekend project to hunt Pleasanton's ghosts blossomed into a five-weekend investigation, said Young, founder and director of the Santa Clara-based Ghost Trackers Paranormal Research Group. "We kept finding things.
We would hear some voices, or we would capture something on a picture," she said. "The activity there is just excellent."
Young, who
founded Ghost Trackers in 1992, uses a diverse group of people to
conduct field research and learn more about ghosts and other psychic
phenomena.
The former emergency room
nurse said there are plenty of urban legends and ghost stories around
the Bay Area. She was amazed, however, to find suchoverwhelming
evidence in Pleasanton.
"It's very unusual," Young
said. "Urban legends are usually just that — urban legends." After an
early visit to Gay 90's, Young was looking through still photographs
and found a picture taken of an old mirror. It reflected an image of
herself, a male team member and Ghost Walk coordinator Rebecca Bruner.
What was surprising, however, was the image of a woman with
camel-colored hair, also reflected back from the mirror. There was no
one else with them that day who looked like that additional image.
Young also heard voices in the basement of Gay 90's, which occupies a structure built in 1864.
Pleasanton historians note
that Chinese laborers built a connection from that basement to the
town's underground tunnels, which ran from that building to the current
location of thePleasanton Ho......

(A true story posted by a reader of Paranormal
Phenomena at About.com)
I am a soldier in the US Army and was recently
deployed to the Iraqi desert with a medical unit in support of OIF. We were in
the middle of nowhere in these abandoned buildings, and several people have
experienced "strange phenomena" while we were there, but this is my experience.
One night while I was on guard duty, our duty
phone rang. My battle buddy and I assumed it was an emergency and someone was

Danny Penman: Marc and Marianne undressed themselves and quickly slipped under the duvet. Although the heating had been on for many hours, it was unusually cold in their normally snug bedroom. Soon they hoped to be as warm as toast and drifting off to sleep after a hard day looking after their boisterous three-year-old son Robert. Seconds later, Marianne was hit on the head by their son’s toy dog. She sat bolt upright in bed with a bemused look in her eyes. The cuddly toy was clearly aimed at he...Ghost-hunting skeptics
When Carol Copeland started renovating her World War II-era Stockton home a year ago, things started to happen that were unexplainable, she said. At first, when she came home to find an empty shelf ripped out of her bedroom wall, she blamed it on faulty carpentry. When she heard the sound of footsteps and her name being called aloud, she brushed it off. But when she watched as a shot glass collection flew off a shelf in her living room, she said, there was no denying it anymore. “I always said I...Ghosts on the Road
A sliver of a moon illuminates gravestones and a motley group treading slowly over fresh-cut grass. It has been several hours since the search began. Suddenly, the thermal gauge, held in the palm of one member's hand, registers a steady temperature drop: from 67, to 54, then 42 -- and finally to 34 degrees. "It's colder here," the member reports. Just then, the lights on the electromagnetic field detector begin flashing, drawing the group deeper into the grounds. The gr...The Legend of Blackbird Hill

THIS ghostly figure was snapped by a holidaymaker on the moors of North Yorkshire — and experts reckon the eerie photo is GENUINE. Unsuspecting Colin Foster, 34, aimed his new digital camera at the winter scenery during a trip earlier this year. He didn’t spot anything unusual until he returned home from his backpacking tour and began checking the photos he had taken. Colin said: “My girlfriend and I were looking through them when she grabbed my hand and said, ‘Stop’. “She insisted I z...Brown Lady of Raynham
Selected Extract From "Ghosts of East Anglia" by Tony EllisDOROTHY, VISCOUNTESS TOWNSHEND, 1686-1726
The ghost of the Brown Lady, so called because she is always seen on the
staircase and in the corridors of Raynham Hall wearing a brown brocade dress,
