As Tom and Bobbette Clapsadle of Waterford strolled along the water at Ocean Beach Park Sunday afternoon with their two sons, they spotted an almost alien-looking corpse lying amongst the seaweed. We said, 'Oh my God, look at that,' ” said Tom Clapsadle. The first thing Bobbette thought they had discovered was the celebrated creature known as the “Montauk monster.” About two and half feet long with powerful shoulders and a pointed, turtlelike snout, the Ocean Beach carcass looks very much like a fleshy, beaked creature found in July on Long Island. Storiesand photos about that discovery appeared in newspapers and on television and there was rampant Internet speculation about what is was.

Some joked it must have been the result of an experiment gone bad at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. The Montauk animal was never identified with certainty. The Clapsadles, who had seen a report on television about the Montauk monster, said it looked like the same thing to them. They reported the find to the Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, which said it might look at the creature today once it had seen photos. Tom Clapsadle said the corpse had no strong odor and the seagulls did not seem interested in it, something he foundstrange. Others on the beach speculated it might be a sea turtle, dog, fisher cat or raccoon. Maggie Jones, director of the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic, said Sunday night after examining photos that her best initial guess would be a raccoon. “I'm quite certain of it,” she said. “The arrangement of the teeth look like a raccoon and the skull is pretty distinctive. It's nothing else I can think of.”

Footage taken by amateur photographer David Elder of a dark object in Loch Ness has appeared online. The 50-year-old filmed the mysterious disturbance in the water from the south-west side of the loch near Fort Augustus. The footage shows what appears to be a dark object beneath the water producing a wave as it moves from right to left. Elder was photographing a swan when he noticed the unusual wake."I"m convinced this was caused by a solid black object under the water," he said.

"The water was very still at the time and there were no ripples coming off the wave and no other activity on the water."The video, which was published by the Mail Online, can be viewed below.

The American actor is planning a trip to Scotland in an effort to locate the enigmatic lake monster. The Platoon actor who was famously sacked from sitcom Two And A Half Men in 2011 is no stranger to the unusual, having previously claimed to be both a "warlock" and a "rock star from Mars". Now he is turning his attentions to the Scottish loch along with friend Brian Peck to hunt down themonster.

A photograph of his "hunting gear" posted on Twitter shows him donning a bronze battle helmet in preparation for the trip.Despite the unusual nature of this latest endeavor, Sheen"s fans have taken to Twitter in their droves to wish him well. Whether or not he actually finds anything the effort is still likely to go down as one of the actor"s most unusual madcap excursions to date. "Hollywood hellraiser Charlie Sheen isplanning a trip to Scotland – to hunt for the Loch Ness monster."

Student Conall Melarkey was filming from a boat on Lough Foyle when something unusual appeared. In the footage, the Nessie-like hump of what looks like a large creature rises up out of the water and swims across in front of the boat. After moving in a straight line for some distance the object slowly sinks back down and out of sight while the people on board the boat can be heard exclaiming in disbelief at what they"d just witnessed. The video hasattracted a lot of attention since appearing on Youtube.

Some have suggested that the object is actually a piece of debris, a whale or a hoax viral ad campaign. Melarkey has responded negatively to suggestions that the video is a stunt to promote the college project he was filming for at the time. "Can’t believe people are suggesting this is just a viral promotion for our college project which is only two minutes long," he said. "There have been plenty of dodgy sightings of the Loch Ness Monsterin the Scottish body of water of the same name, but video footage has emerged of a Nessie-esque creature filmed in an Irish lough."
