Many in this world, myself included, are intrigued by the Mayan calendar. I find the concept of time and the use of calendars fascinating in and of itself, but when you consider that the calendar is the cradle of civilization, it becomes even more interesting. In a video by Ian Xel Lundgold he begins his discussion by explaining the idea that whoever controls the calendar, controls civilization. Although ensuring that we make our meetings, pay our bills on time and schedule our appointments and vacations, we in modern society pay little attention to the calendar and the passing of days. Time just Is.We live by the Gregorian calendar these days, established by Pope Gregory XIIIin the year 1582 and it replaced the Julian calendar. It took until September of 1752 for England and the American colonies to accept the new calendar and rioting occurred when the date changed from September 2nd to September 14th overnight.

The Julian calendar replaced the Roman calendar and in the transition the year 46 BC was 445 days long. And the Mayan calendar says time will end, as we know it, on 12-21-2012. And my question becomes, how do we know our dates and the Mayan dates match? Have we been adjusting our calendars to match theirs? Mr. Lundgold felt that the Mayan calendar’s focus was on creativity and the recurring of cycles in time. He explained how the Mayan people understood that what happened before would happen again to a greater or lesser degree, so the idea of capturing time in a calendar was to prepare them ahead oftime for the events that would unfold in the future. He also said that as time evolved to a close, more creation would occur in less time. The Mayan prophecies speak of serpent ropes or ladders falling from the heavens to allow us to ascend to the next level of creation. In an article from Space.com (article) in March of 2006 a nebula has been discovered twisted into a double helix, a DNA-shaped spiral, the first observed in the cosmos. It seems the magnetic field lines in the center of the galaxy are 1,000 times stronger than on earth and have changed this nebula. Mark Morris of UCLA, the study’s lead author, is quoted as saying, “What we see indicates a high degree of order." Could this nebula be the rope the Mayan’s predicted? And after all......

Stunning Mayan carvings of cosmic monsters

Archaeologists have uncovered carved stucco panels depicting cosmic monsters, gods and serpents in Guatemala's northern jungle. They are the oldest known depictions of a famous Mayan creation myth. 'Apocalypto' now for Mel, Maya and historians

Call it "The Passion of the Maya": Mel Gibson is quietly filming a movie in a Mexican jungle about the collapsed civilization. Given Gibson's cinematic history, experts on the ancient Maya are looking forward to his upcoming epic, "Apocalypto," with a mixture of curiosity and dread. They're pleased that Hollywood will feature a period of world history still little understood but worry that once again a movie may sacrifice historical accuracy for the sake of a good sto...

Portal to mythical Mayan underworld found

Mexican archeologists have discovered a maze of stone temples in underground caves, some submerged in water and containing human bones, which ancient Mayans believed was a portal where dead souls entered the underworld. Clad in scuba gear and edging through narrow tunnels, researchers discovered the stone ruins of eleven sacred temples and what could be the remains of human sacrifices at the site in the Yucatan Peninsula. Archeologists say Mayans believed the underground complex of water-filled ...

Researchers open cave under Mexican pyramid

Archaeologists are opening a cave sealed for more than 30 years deep beneath a Mexican pyramid to look for clues about the mysterious collapse of one of ancient civilisation"s largest cities. The soaring Teotihuacan stone pyramids, now a major tourist site about an hour outside Mexico City, were discovered by the ancient Aztecs around 1500 AD, not long before the arrival of Spanish explorers to Mexico. Upright skeleton found in Maya tomb

Archaeologists working in Honduras have discovered an entombed human skeleton of an elite member of the ancient Maya Empire that may help unravel some longstanding mysteries of the vanished culture. Possible Aztec offerings found in Mexico

Submitted by Pendekar Timur: Archaeologists diving into a lake in the crater of a snowcapped volcano found wooden scepters shaped like lightning bolts that match 500-year-old descriptions by Spanish priests and conquerors writing about offerings to the Aztec rain god.
