
The remains of the woman who Leonardo painted as the Mona Lisa may have been found 30 years ago.Giuseppe Pallanti has spent 30 years attempting to locate the final resting place of Lisa Gherardini, he believes that her burial site in Florence was turned in to a barracks and that her remains had been dug up and thrown in arubbish tip.
The developers had no knowledge that it was the final resting place of da Vinci"s famous model – that was only discovered in 2007 – and during work to build an underground car park, the convent"s foundations were excavated, along with the crumbling remains of graves and tombs.
