The Cookes have been on television in various capacities in search of their daughter. In a couple of cases, they sought out famous psychics to give them answers. KXAN NBC Austin's Jenny Hoff looked into what the psychics said and what detectives have to say about their validity. Sylvia Browne is well-known psychic and a regular guest on the Montel Williams Show. She is also a psychic RobertCooke sought out in a desperate attempt to find his daughter.
"It gives them an opportunity to hold on to some kind of hope," Eric Poteet with the Round Rock Police said. Brown said Rachel's killer was named Bill or Billy, white, in his 30s and from California. It is not an exact description of the man now charged, Michael Keith Moore. Other psychics have also gotten involved. On the show Insider, James Van Praagh said, "I got Rachel coming through to me saying,'There's an auto store not far from where I used to live, and there's a mechanic that worked there with a blue and white shirt and he knows something about what happened to me.""When you're left with nothing, you will tend to grab whatever presents itself," Poteet said.
