
Scientists discover seahorses" bodies evolved to support a new way of catching food.Evolved from the pipe fish, the seahorse"s unique "S" shape has allowed it to change from ahunter that swims after its prey to one that sits and waits for prey to pass by so that it can strike out even if the target is not passing directly in front of it.
Using high-speed footage and mathematical models, Sam Van Wassenbergh from the University of Antwerp in Belgium showed that the curve in a seahorse"s "neck" allows it to strike at moredistant prey.
