Submitted by Alex Zelaya: In the world of history, thanks to Darwin"s theory of evolution, the accepted cradle of civilization is commonly cited by scholars as being the continent of Africa. The Middle East - notably, in the area of 5 rivers; the Tigris-Euphrates (in modern day Iraq), the Nile in Africa, the Indus in South Asia, and the Huang-He-Yangtze in China are also figured prominently in the development of humankind. We"re told modern civilization is but 10,000 years old, but if that"s the case, how do we explain findings that predate us? Are there such things outside what we"re taught and "known" for so long? In the Spring of 2005, Canadian divers conducting a project in MacDonald Lake at the Haliburton Forest and WildLife Reserve, came upon an ancient stone structure - 40 feet below the present lake level.

Initially the structure was considered to have been ferried by glaciers created during the last ice age, thousands of years ago and dumped where they happened to melt at the end of one of the more recent cold-freezes. There"s been several ice ages in the history of the Earth. What"s commonly called "the ice age," is actually the most recent one, which began about two million years ago, and was characterized by cold, and relatively warm phases. Out of that, there have been four major continental glaciations recorded in North America. The last began about 70,000 years ago, and ended about 8,000 BC. At the peak of the last glaciation, approximately 97% of Canada was covered by ice. We"re currently in an interglacial phase that could last for another10,000 or more years. The discovery of this mystery rock formation (an assembly of now seven rocks) were thought to be compound perched erratics (found in northern North America), where 2 or even 3 rocks happened to land on top of each other, leaving behind a natural structure. However, when geologists and archaeologists saw images of the object - a 1,000 pound, elongated and south pointing rock sitting on baseball-sized stones at each end, which in turn, were resting on a massive, several thousand pound slab on top of the ledge, they expressed doubts about its natural origin.

Catholics have flocked to a tree in Fresno, California because they believe it is weeping God"s tears.People started to gather at the otherwise unremarkable Crape Myrtle tree on Wednesday when parishioner Maria Ybarra first reported drops of liquid falling from it. As word got around more and more people turned up, attracting the attention of local news crews. "When you say ‘glory be to God in Jesus’ name’ the tree starts throwing out more water," said Ybarra.Fresnoarborist Jon Reelhorn however believes there is a more down-to-earth explanation for the mysterious drips - tree lice excrement.

"The aphides will suck the sap, the sap goes through the aphid and then it is a honey dew excrement from the aphid and it gets so heavy in the summertime that it will drip down," he said. This hasn"t stopped people gathering to pray at the tree however. "I can tell you looking at it from a scientific standpoint and a spiritual standpoint it is the work of God manifesting here on earth," parishioner Ybarra argued. "Ybarra was the first person to feel the drops of liquid, which began falling from the Crape Myrtle tree on Wednesday."

New evidence has been found which suggests humans reached South America far earlier than thought. It has been generally believed that the first humans reached the Americas around 13,000 years ago with evidence building since the 1980s to suggest that colonization might have occurred slightly before that about 15,000 years ago. Now however the discovery of what appear to be stone tools at a site in Brazil has turned this figure on its head and opens upthe possibility that humans had arrived on the continent as far back as 22,000 years ago. There is considerable uncertainty over the find among scientists with many casting doubt on the accuracy of the claims.

Some have suggested that objects that appear to be human-made tools could be created by rocks falling and breaking apart, however an analysis of the tools seems to indicate that they are made from a type of rock which can only be found over 15km from the site. "Humans lived in South Americaat the height of the last ice age, thousands of years earlier than we thought, according to a controversial study."

The strongest evidence yet of a Viking outpost on Baffin Island has been presented by archaeologists. It had long been suspected that the seafaring Vikings had traversed the Atlantic ocean as long ago as the 10th century, but it wasn"t until the 1960s when two Norwegian researchers unearthed the remains of a Viking base camp in Newfoundland that this suspicion was confirmed. Now archaeologist Patricia Sutherland has announced new findings including Vikingalloys and blade-sharpening tools that suggest a second outpost has been located in Canada.Sutherland believes that parties of Viking explorers may have traveled to Canada in search of valuable resources such as furs and walrus ivory.

It is also thought that they may have traded with Native Americans as part of what could have been a fully fledged transatlantic trade network. For the past 50 years - since the discovery of a thousand-year-old Viking way station in Newfoundland—archaeologists andamateur historians have combed North America"s east coast searching for traces of Viking visitors.
