Four skeletons unearthed in southern Poland are believed to have been subject to a vampire burial. The graveyard was found at the small town of Gliwice and is believed to date back to the 16th century. The skeletons were all found with their heads removed and placed between their legs, a typical practice at the time reserved for those suspected of being vampires. Such beliefs have been a long-standing tradition in theregion with the burial position intended to prevent the skeletons from rising from the dead.Another vampire burial was recently discovered in Bulgaria consisting of two skeletons with iron rods through their chests as per tradition during the 14th century.

As many as 100 graves of this type have been unearthed across various eastern European countries in recent years. "Researchers came across a spooky discovery when they unearthed a graveyard that appeared tocontain the skeletons of four Poles suspected of being vampires."

Mr Lorca, it seems, liked to be called Count, ate only raw meat ...

Vampires and sickness

The supernatural idea of the vampire has been heightened, over the centuries, by a large number of seemingly inexplicable anecdotes. Typical was the fate that befell Meduegya, a town in Serbia, in 1732. Vampire consciousness: Following a spate of de...
