Underground nuclear and conventional bomb tests. Giant volcanic eruptions. The sudden opening of yawning sinkholes that seem to have no bottom. These events all leave strange, circular depressions and holes in Earth's crust. Yet despite the many different things that can trigger the land beneath our feet to give way, collapse structures all look remarkably similar. Why is that? What can we learn about the dangerous processes that cause them? Can studying giant holes in the planet even make us better at finding valuable minerals? Keith Howard of the United States Geological Survey has dedicated his life to peering into the abyss in search of answers. In a new paper in the journal GSA Today, he outlines a few general rules about why collapse structures look so much the same -- in short, it's all down to rocks' strength (or lack thereof).

Someone has photographed a strange angel-like object flying over the streets of Nuremberg.She"d been on holiday taking photographs of the city when she noticed the strange object high up in the sky, the image has been placed online to see if anyone can help to determine what it is. A woman from York captured an unexplained object in her holiday snaps this month, and wants your help identifying it.

She was on a European holiday with her boyfriend when she took a photo of this street in Nuremberg.

Some believe that our universe was designed by a creator but could its creator be a civilization of people ?Rather than being the product of a single entity the universe may have been the product of an advanced civilization of people using technology of a nature not entirely dissimilar to the machines and devices we use in our every day lives. Theargument over whether the universe has a creator, and who that might be, is among the oldest in human history.

But amid the raging arguments between believers and sceptics, one possibility has been almost ignored – the idea that the universe around us was created by people very much like ourselves, using devices not too dissimilar to those available toscientists today.

An intriguing photograph from the 1940s showing a man in modern clothing has been doing the rounds on the web.The photograph shows a crowd of people at the reopening of the South Fork Bridge in British Columbia, one of the people there however is wearing shades, a modern looking top and has a portable camera.But is it really a mystery ? It’s the short description for the photograph shown at the virtual Bralorne Pioneer Museum, from British Columbia, Canada.
