UFO Sightings

UFO group members and enthusiasts are questionning whether there really is anybody out there.With sightings in decline in many areas and with an ongoing lack of evidence for extraterrestrial visitation despite decades of research and investigations, some UFO enthusiasts are beginning to step away from the phenomenon and give up the hunt. Many UFO groups have shut down in recent years and others are contemplating whether or not tocontinue.

Could it be that the field of Ufology is on its way out ?"The lack of compelling evidence beyond the pure anecdotal suggests that on the balance of probabilities that nothing is out there," said Dave Wood, chairman of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (Assap). "It is certainly a possibility that in ten years time, it will be a dead subject." Assap’s UFO cases have dropped by 96 per cent since 1988, while the number of other groups involvedin UFO research has fallen from well over 100 in the 1990s to around 30 now.

Could the distraction of a UFO sighting during a flight be enough to cause a collision or crash ?Over the years there have been numerous pilot reports of strange objects in the skies. During World War II, fighter pilots on both sides reported fiery glowing objects ( nicknamed "Foo Fighters" ) following their planes and engaging in wild maneuvers. In more recent times commercial pilots have also reported seeing unusual objects buzzing theiraircraft, but to date no crashes have ever been directly attributed to a collision with or a distraction caused by a UFO.In 1948 however an alleged UFO pursuit did result in a fatality.

Four P-51s had been scrambled to intercept an object estimated to be 300ft wide. While three of the planes broke off the pursuit, the fourth pilot climbed to 25,000 ft without oxygen before blacking out and crash landing. UFO debunker Robert Sheaffer puts it more bluntly blog: ". . . the number of fatalitiesin airline accidents caused by UFOs equals the number of motorists killed in vehicle collisions with unicorns. "

A family were left shaken after seeing strange lights in the sky near their home for several hours.Grandmother Morag Ritchie was the first to witness the spectacle after waking up at 2am on Saturday. "I saw lights in the sky and thought it was a strange looking star," she said. "When I looked closer, I realised they were moving in a spinning motion and then occasionally something shot off to the side. I kept going back to mybed but I was so unsettled that I continued waking up."Soon the other members of her family had become aware of the strange lights, Ritchie"s 27-year old daughter grabbed a camera and proceeded to film them.

"It was really scary, I’m actually still scared just in case something happens; like the alien invasion in Mars Attacks," she said. "It didn’t seem to be too far away from our house. A light flashed then flashed again and spun around. It was really freaky." AnAberdeenshire family were left terrified after a UFO invaded the skies above their home for nearly five hours.

Colonel Halt has accused the federal government of covering up evidence of extraterrestrial visitation.The former Air Force officer who famously recounted his observations of a strange object that landed at Rendlesham Forest in 1980 made the claims of a cover up during a speech at the National Atomic Testing Museum on Saturday night. Halt maintains that a government agency has been set up to suppress information on alien visitors."I"ve heard many people say that it"s time for thegovernment to appoint an agency to investigate," he said.

"Folks, there is an agency, a very close-held, compartmentalized agency that"s been investigating this for years, and there"s a very active role played by many of our intelligence agencies that probably don"t even know the details of what happens once they collect the data and forward it. It"s kind of scary, isn"t it?"Also speaking at the event was former MoD UFO investigator Nick Pope and former Project Blue Book spokesman Col. Bill Coleman. Former Air Force Col.Charles Halt accused the federal government of a UFO cover-up that involves a secret agency to deal with what might be extraterrestrial visitations.
