The Inuit Heritage Trust is trying to shed some light on an Inuit legend. For generations, stories have been passed on about a slaughter near Taloyoak which is a hamlet in central Nunavut. Three years ago Taloyoak resident Bob Lyall was camping on the shore of the Netsilik River, about 20 kilometers southeast of the community. Lyall says while setting up the tent he and his party heard voices and children crying. He thought someone was justplaying tricks on them.
But then Lyall realized they were alone. Lyall says long ago Tunnit people visited the river and killed the Inuit men there and took their women. Tunnit were the people who lived in the Arctic before Inuit. He says there are skulls and other human remains on the river banks. Lyall hopes the Inuit Heritage Trust will reveal more about what happened. "It's a very interesting story and I think it needs further investigation," said Lyall. Inuit Heritage Trust project manager, Ericka Chemko, saysan oral historian will travel to the area for two weeks in August to interview remaining elders about the massacre. Chemko says even though there won't be any digging, the visiting archeologist will still be helpful. "They can give out a larger perspective to the site and possibly suggest the uses to the site over a time and who could have lived there and what could have happened there as well."Read FullArticle

In the mid-1800s, it seemed that western New York was ready for anything that challenged the status quo: abolition, women's rights, utopianism and other social and political innovations. It might not be surprising then that this area gaverise to spiritualism, or the belief that it is possible for the living to communicate with the dead.
Paranormal investigators who spent two nights at Devonport Dockyard have reported sudden temperature drops and ghostly presences in the hangman's cell and are to analyse 'very good' photographic evidence. The team of 10'ghostbusters' said they believe there is paranormal activity at the Dockyard, after logging several unexplained phenomenon during their weekend vigil.
The team of paranormal experts brought into Devonport Dockyard have already collected evidence of 'energies' after their first night of work. The team of 20, brought in by the Royal Navy after persistent reports of ghosts and paranormal activity in the historic South Yard, had their first walk around the yard yesterday and spent the night in the base. They wereholed up in the Master Ropemaker's House, believed to be Plymouth's most haunted building, and the Hangman's Cell, where it is understood 140 men were executed. They have been told not to discuss their findings in detail until they give the Royal Navy a full report in about two months' time. But Barbara Jones, a medium and psychic, said this morning: "There was definitely activity in the Hangman's Cell and we have got evidence ofit." Some of the team - which included a psychic called Goldie and paranormal researcher Ian Addicoat - had also felt an 'energy' in the Master Ropemaker's House, including on the top floor and the second-floor bedroom, where there was 'a very unpleasant feeling'.
