A number of human skeletons and treasures have been found in a water-filled cave at Chichen Itza.Six humans in all were discovered ( including two children ) along with stone tools, jade beads and other items. Expedition leader Guillermo Anda believes that the find indicates the victims were sacrificed during a ceremony to please the Mayan rain god,Chaak.

The bones of six humans—including two children—jade beads, shells, and stone tools are among the Maya "treasures" recently found in a water-filled cave off a sinkhole at the famous archaeological site of Chichén Itzá (picture) in Mexico, archaeologists say.

Archaeologists have discovered a tunnel under the Temple of the Snake in Teotihuacan, Mexico.The tunnel was discovered using a radar device and is sealed at the end but could be home to the remains ofancient Mesoamerican royalty.

It is believed its contents were sealed off some 1,800 years ago. The tunnel had apparently been sealed off around 1,800 years ago. Researchers of Mexico"s National University made the finding with a radar device. Closer study revealed a "representation of the underworld," in the words of archaeologist Sergio Gomez Chavez, of Mexico"s NationalInstitute of Anthropology and History.

A new study has discovered that the ancient Incas owed a lot to the excrement of the common llama.2,700 years ago the Incas switched from hunter-gathering to agriculture, allowing their people to flourish in the area around Machu Picchu. Archaeologists have determined that what facilitated this change was an ample supply ofeffective fertilizer with which to grow crops or in other words - llama droppings.

One of the world"s greatest ancient civilisations may have been built on llama droppings, a new study has found. Machu Picchu, the famous Inca city set in the Peruvian Andes, celebrates the centenary of its ""discovery" by the outside world thisJuly.

Three-dimensional mapping has been used to reveal a long lost city in the Guatemalan rain forest.The remains of hundreds of buildings have been identified beneath the undergrowth belonging to the Maya city of Holtun including a massive stone pyramid, an astronomical observatory and a number of stonehouses.

Though it"s long been known to locals that something—something big—is buried in this patch of Guatemalan rain forest, it"s only now that archaeologists are able to begin teasing out what exactly Head of Stone was.
