The results of the new study will be revealed on the 80th anniversary of the first modern sighting.Statistical ecologist Dr Charles Paxton is collating a complete catalogue of all Loch Ness Monster sightings to have taken place in modern times. The results will be revealed at a conference this weekend on the anniversary of the first modern sighting - that of Drumnadrochit hotel manageress AldieMackay who witnessed a strange creature in the water in 1933."I am carrying out a statistical analysis of Loch Ness monster accounts since 1933, specifically looking for clusters in terms of what is reported," said Dr Paxton.

"In some cases there are multiple witnesses, or witnesses giving multiple accounts of the same event, which allow us to test eyewitness consistency." "An expert delving deep into the history of Nessie spotters is toreveal his findings on the 80th anniversary of the first modern-day sighting."

Divers exploring Lake Labynkyr have allegedly discovered mysterious skeletal remains in its depths. The lake has long been associated with stories of a "Devil" that has been reported as far back as the 19th century, a legend which parallels Scotland"s Loch Ness Monster. In a record-breaking diving expedition, the Russian Georgraphical Society Underwater Research Team had been investigating the depths of the freezing lake, recording footage of the bottom and taking samples of the lake"sflora, when they came across something rather unusual.Details are scarce, however according to reports the team are said to have located some mysterious bones using a special underwater scanner.

"There have been all sort of hypothesises about what kind of creature it could be: a giant pike, a relic reptile or an amphibia," said Geologist Viktor Tverdokhlebov on the subject of the lake"s mysterious inhabitant. "We didn"t manage to prove or to disprove these versions... we managed to find remains of jaws and skeleton of some animal." A dozen divers braved legends of monsters and the coldest winter temperatures in a venture that is likely to go into the Guinness World Book of Records.

Nessie hunter George Edwards has published a photo showing an object in the waters of Loch Ness. The cruise operator has been searching for definitive evidence of the creature for years and believes that this new photograph is what he"s been looking for. Edwards claims that he took the picture near Urquhart Castle in November last year, delaying its publication because he had sent it away for analysis. The image can be viewed - here.Fellow Nessie hunter Steve Feltham who has taken up permanent residence at Loch Ness was impressed by the find.

"It is the best photograph I think I have ever seen," he said. "I think the images are fantastic - thatís the animal I have been looking for all this time."Loch Ness Project leader Adrian Shrine however was unconvinced. "It looks like the object is stationary in the water, and a matter of metres from the photographer, who is at a higher elevation," he said."Looking at the texture of the water, the object is about 2ft long, but it could be anything." Loch Ness cruise boat operator and veteran Nessie hunter George Edwards yesterday published his photograph, which drew praise from a fellow monster expert, who described it as the best evidence that Nessie exists.

A snake-like creature has been filmed moving slowly through a frozen glacial lake in Iceland. Some believe the video to show evidence of the legendary Lagarfljotsormurinn, Iceland"s answer to the Loch Ness Monster. In the video the serpent-shaped object appears to slink steadily through the icy waters, could this be a strange newundiscovered species or is there a more conventional explanation ? Lagarfljotsormurinn is Icelandís equivalent to Scotlandís Loch Ness monster.

It was first mentioned in sources dating back to 1345. According to legend, it was at first a tiny worm which was placed on a ring of gold to make the gold grow.
