New evidence has being found indicating America was populated far earlier than previously thought. The research has suggested that Stone Age Europeans migrated to what is now North America 22,000 years ago. Chief among that evidence is a rediscovered tapered stone blade, first discovered in thewaters of Chesapeake Bay in 1970.

Scientists rejected this idea in 1999, but now an archaeologist at England’s University of Exeter has published work that suggests that this blade may be the key to revealing the migratory path of Europe"s Stone Age ancestors. When the crew of the Virginia scallop trawler Cinmar hauled a mastodon tusk onto the deck in 1970, another oddity dropped out of the net: a dark, tapered stone blade, nearly eight inches long and still sharp.
