Have we discovered all the planets in our solar system or could there still be more out there to find ?While the hunt for new planets is now mostly focused on other solar systems, the idea that there could be one or more new planets lurking within our own solar system"s Kuiper Belt has not been forgotten. The idea of a "Planet X" has even been associated with doomsday predictions and 2012 with some people believing that the end of the worldwill be brought about by this enigmatic world colliding with the Earth.
There is however no evidence that such an event is likely to happen. One particularly compelling phenomenon that might indicate the presence of a planet in the outer solar system is the "Kuiper Cliff", a point at which the frozen debris in the Kuiper Belt suddenly stops. Could there be an unknown planet out there influencing these objects or is there another explanation that science has yet to discover ? Theannouncement of the recent discovery of exoplanet Alpha Centauri Bb is a testimony to how far planetary detection techniques have come over the last few decades.
An icy, unknown world might lurk in the distant reaches of our solar system beyond the orbit of Pluto, according to a new computer model. The hidden world — thought to be much bigger than Pluto based on the model — could explain unusual features of the Kuiper Belt, a region of space beyond Neptune littered with icy and rocky bodies. Its existence would satisfy the long-held hopes and hypotheses for a "Planet X" envisioned by scientists and sci-fi buffs alike. "Although the search for a distant planet in the solar system isold, it is far from over," said study team member Patryk Lykawka of Kobe University in Japan.
The model, created by Lykawka and Kobe University colleague Tadashi Mukai, is detailed in a recent issue of Astrophysical Journal. If the new world is confirmed, it would not be technically a planet. Under a controversial new definition adopted by the International Astronomical Union last week, it would instead be the largest known "plutoid." The Kuiper Belt contains many peculiar features that can"t be explained by standard solar system models. One is the highly irregular orbits of some of the belt"s members. The most famous is Sedna, a rockyobject located three times farther from the sun than Pluto. Sedna takes 12,000 years to travel once around the sun, and its orbit ranges from 80 to 100 astronomical units. One AU is equal to the distance between the Earth and the Sun. According to the model, Sedna and other Kuiper Belt oddities could be explained by a world 30 to 70 percent as massive as Earth orbiting between 100 AU and 200 AU from the sun.
Introduction:
Zecharia Sitchin's The 12th Planet purports to contain "indisputable documentary proof" that all of humanity was created by a group of aliens who visited this planet between roughly 450,000 BC and 13,000 BC. The aliens created humanity by combining their DNA with that of the proto-humans the found on Earth in a scheme to create somewhat intelligent workers for the mining enterprises they were founding on Earth. This work is intended to be an analysis of Sitchin's book in light of mainstream archeological thought about ancient Sumeria and mainstream science in other fields such as aerospace engineering, astronomy, evolution, Bible research, and so on.
Abstract:
Sitchin's work is a masterpiece of linguistic maneuvering and allegorical interpretation. He is clearly well-read in the archeology and mythology of ancient Sumeria and related lore. His work conflicts, however, with mainstream archeological opinion. In fact, in Usenet discussions of Sitchin's work, several well-published, respected archeologists familiar with this period have called Sitchin a fool and an idiot (but in less polite terms). While he's well-read, he lives in his own little world when it comes to translation of ancient texts. He also takes certain liberties in his translations and interpretations that are not usually allowed by the scientific community. His work completely falls apart, also, when modern science is brought to bear. Sitchin's interpretations of Sumerian Epics and other writings describe events that simply couldn't have happened.
The first thing that confronts a reader of The 12th Planet is an Author's Note. The note talks about the translations of biblical verses quoted within the book. The second paragraph says: In the final version quoted in The 12th Planet, I have compared the available translations against each other and against Hebrew source and the parallel Sumerian and Akkadian texts/tales, to come up with what I believe is the most accurate rendering. (Sitchin, Authors Note)...
Planet X seems to fit in with
Bible prophecy, in a number of instances. The Book of Revelation is perhaps one
of the best examples of this correlation and is the last book in the New
Testament. It is said to represent, in symbolic language, the record of events
received in the form of visions given to John by an angel, sent by Jesus. It
speaks of conditions and events that could occur prior to and during Jesus'
second coming. The chapters and verses are characterized by 7 seals, 7
trumpets, and 7 bowls, which describe the order of these purposive events as
they may occur. The sixth seal deals with "Cosmic Disturbances". Compare the
words of the chapter addressing the sixth seal, Rev 6:12-15, with what is
predicted during Planet X’s passage. Rev 6:12-15
"I watched as he opened the
sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth
made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky
fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.
The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was
removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals,
the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among
the rocks of the mountains." In analyzing this: "There was a great earthquake".
9-15 Richter scale quakes could occur during a pole shift. "The sun turned
black like sackcloth made of goat hair". The ash from the many spewing volcanoes
could block out the light of the sun. "The whole moon turned blood red" The
planet's comet-like tail is comprised of much red dust which may make the moon
appear to be red when viewed through it. "The stars in the sky fell to earth"
Asteroids, space debris, boulders, gravel, and dust are held in the suns giant
magnetic field and follow along in Niburu's comet like tail. There is much
ecological evidence that this has swept the earth before...
