A new poll has found that 44% of Americans believe natural disasters could be a sign of the end of days."There"s just something about the randomness of the universe that is too unsettling," says sociologist Scott Schieman. "We like explanations for why things happen… many times peopleweave in these divine narratives." A new poll finds that 56 percent of Americans agree or mostly agree that God is in control of all Earthly events.

Forty-four percent think that natural disasters are or could be a sign from the Almighty.

Seismologists discover evidence of a similar tsunami that hit Sendai in 869 AD.The devastation wraught by the disaster that hit Japan on March 11, 2011 has been nothing less than horrific, but evidence of a similar tsunami eventin 869 AD has lead at least one seismologist to conclude that a tsunami of this size could happen on average once every one thousand years.

It is not unusual for undersea earthquakes to generate tsunamis in this part of Japan. Offshore quakes in the 19th and 20th centuries also caused large walls of water to hit this area of coastline. But previous research by a Japanese team shows that in the 869"Jogan" disaster, tsunami waters moved some 4km inland, causing widespread flooding.

A new study has revealed that we may be on the verge of an apocalyptic mass extinction event.The research suggests that should we fail to reverse the damaging effects of human activity on the world"s eco-systems then we may be heading towards an extinction event that could wipe out 75% of all life on the planet. Earth may be on thebrink of a sixth mass extinction on the scale of the apocalyptic event that wiped out the dinosaurs, a study claims.

The researchers say that unless action is taken now to reverse the harmful effects of human activity on eco-systems, a full-blown mass extinction could occur within a few centuries.

Population growth and climate change could threaten the world"s water supplies within the next 20 years.Population growth will not only increase the demand for drinking water but also for that used in the production of clothing, foodand other necessities.

Developed countries will be required to have more complex water conservation techniques in order to manage the water that is available. A new way of thinking about water is needed as looming shortages threaten communities, agriculture and industry, experts said. In the next two decades, a third of humanity will have only half the water required to meet basic needs, said researchers.
