On August 6, 1999, Battle Mountain, Nevada, exploded into several simultaneous range fires in what would be known as the Battle Mountain Complex Fire. A Bigfoot was hurt in the fire according to an anonymous government employee, who alerted the Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO). The story was later dismissed but acclaimed author and science teacher Thom Powell believe it really happened and that the whole story was an elaborate cover-up. In a letter to BFRO dated "7 August 1999, Battle Mountain, Nevada" the anonymous government employee, states: "I observed an animal wounded by fire moving on all fours not like abear.

More like ape. Fire fighters captured animal, contacted local vet and medical doctor. U.S. Department of Fish and Woldlife, Department of Interior, and Bureau of Land Management on the scene. Animal tranquilized and moved to unknown location. Those at scene told not to talk about what they saw. Animal approximately 7.5 feet long/tall, human like arms and legs, face not like man or ape but mixed between. Genitalia: male, uncircumcised and human-like. Hair covering most of body except chest, chest has hair but sparse, hands with sparse hair, palms bare, with five digits with human opposition of thumb and 5th digit.Multiple burnsSpeech - attempted to communicate with care-givers once it realized they were attempting to carefor it. Multiple burns on hands, feet, legs and body; some 2nd and 3rd degree burns, using "rule of nines" approximately 45 per cent of body with burns.Doctor and Vet working together providing care and moved it to unknown location locally. This notice given in violation of orders given by BLM, DOI and DF&W. Witnesses numbered in the area of 30-25. Word is out in the government agencies, and among the firefighters, since an M.D. was called out. Many thought a firefighter was injured. Please note that I am a government employee of one of the listed agencies fighting bruse fire in wilderness area of Nevada (large scale fire approximately 70,000 acres burned) and under orders not to disclose information.Protected areaI. ...

Yowie - Illustration: Xavier Lemmens

Following a trail that leads from Aboriginal myth to modern-day encounters, Michael Williams & Ruby Lang set off in pursuit of one of Australia’s most mysterious inhabitants – the Yowie. It was like an elephant on two legs wearing size 20 boots.’’ That’s how Blue Mountains resident Neil Frost would later describe the ape-like creature he encountered in thick bush near his backyard to local police. It was February 1993. The schoolteacher and father of a newborn son was loath to wake up his youngest child with a midnight trip to the toilet. Instead, he chose to sneak out the back door and relieve himselfin the bush-fringed yard.It was just as he finished his business that a large shape loomed out of the shadows, surprising him before itself taking flight. "I’d just finished and taken one or two steps and this thing got up out of the bush and just took off," Neil recalls.

It was unbelievable. It sounded big, like it weighed… I don’t know… maybe 130kg [20st]. I didn’t get a good look at it." Somewhat shaken, Neil bolted next door to alert neighbour Ian 'Lizard’ Price, a herpetologist and former bike gang member, who was surprised to find his normally "quiet and boring" neighbour banging on his bedroom window in the middle of the night. "He was in a state of really extreme agitation," Ian remembers. So I said'Let’s do it'. After all, the most it could do was kill us! Together, the pair pursued the shape into the bush, but the creature eluded them – always just one step ahead – and began what was to become a bizarre, ongoing ritual of hide-and-seek. Reporting the matter to local police proved a fruitless exercise; the two men later found out that local constables had carried out a door-to-door enquiry to find out if either of the pair was a known troublemaker or "doing drugs". So, night after night, the two men would chase the creature – which would announce its presence by noisily thumping the ground – watching it flit between trees and across fire trails just beyond their reach. In their search for the elusive man-ape, Neil and Ian also located what appeared to befull body i......

MANASSAS — Those who know 46-year-old William Dranginis say he’s a levelheaded guy. He has a sharp mind, an easy smile, an attractive family, a nice home and a trustworthy job designing surveillance equipment for the government. But, 10 years ago, Dranginis says he crossed paths with something in the deep, dark woods of Culpeper County. Snicker if you want, but his life has never been the same. March 11, 1995. Dranginis recites the day with unwavering detail. Blue skies. The hint of spring. A perfect Saturday to mess around with his latest passion: hunting for artifacts with his new metal detector. Today had a special destination: a string of old gold mines from the early 1800s that still stabdeep into the rolling earth of Virginia’s Piedmont.

He headed out early with an old friend, an FBI agent named Frank, who shared his itch for hidden treasures. About an hour southwest of home, near Richardsville, they picked up another agent, a man Dranginis was meeting for the first time. The day slipped by peacefully. The three hiked along dirt roads and forested paths, poked into old mine shafts and scoured the soil. Around mid afternoon, they turned back toward the car, tired and empty-handed. On a logging road, about a half-mile from the pavement, Frank abruptly shot his arms outward in a silent signal to halt. “Behind that tree,” he whispered. “There’s a man.” The three stood stock-still, staring at a cluster of slender pines just ahead on the right. Why would a man duck out of sight unless he was up to no good? Frank drew the 9 mm handgun hewore holstered on his side. The other agent produced one as well. Both trained their barrels at the shadows behind the trees. Suddenly, Dranginis says, a dark, shaggy head peered out at them from behind a pine, then jerked back. Seconds later, he says, a creature like none he’d ever seen darted out and began running, following the edge of the road. “ It ran for about 75 feet, moving from our left to our right, before it took a sharp turn that took it deeper into the woods,” Dranginis said. “We watched the top of its head bobbing as it disappeared down into a ravine.” During that 10 or 12 seconds, Dranginis says, he was shocked into a kind of tunnel vision. “I don’t remember hearing anything, and I can’t tell you what its face looked like,” he said. “I was just stunned by how tall it was, like 7 feet. And it was so qui......

Bigfoot a.k.a. Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas, Mapinguari (the Amazon), Sasquatch, Yowie (Australia) and Yeti (Asia)

An ape like creature reportedly sighted hundreds of times around the world since the mid-19th century. The creature is variously described as standing 7-10 ft (2-3 m) tall and weighing over 500 lb (225 kg), with footprints 17 in. (43 cm) long. The creature goes by many names, but in northern California it is known as ?Bigfoot.? (It is also known as the Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas, Mapinguari [the Amazon], Sasquatch, Yowie [Australia] and Yeti [Asia]). The creature is big business in the Pacific Northwest along a stretch of US-101 in southern Humboldt County known as the Redwood Highway. Numerous shops line the roadway, each with its own Bigfoot chainsaw-carved out of majestic redwood.

Most scientists discount the existence of Bigfoot because the evidence supporting belief in the survival of a prehistoric bipedal apelike creature of such dimensions is scant. One notable exception is Grover S. Krantz (1931-2002), an anthropologist at Washington State University. For nearly forty years, Krantz argued for the probable existence of Bigfoot,* but was unable to convince the majority of scientists. The evidence for Bigfoot?s existence consists mainly of testimony from Bigfoot enthusiasts, footprints of questionable origin, and pictures that could easily have been of apes or humans in ape suits. There are no bones, no scat, no artifacts, no dead bodies, no mothers with babies, no adolescents, no fur, no nothing. Not that there aren't "sightings" of such. There are "sightings" galore. Just check The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization's website for an uncritical list of sightings. However, there is no evidence that any individual or community of such creatures dwells anywhere near any of the ?sightings.? In short, the evidence points more towards hoaxing and delusion than real discovery. Some believers dismiss all such criticism and claim that Bigfoot exists in another dimension and travels by astral projection. Such claims reinforce the skeptic?s view that the Bigfoot legend is a function of passionate fans of the paranormal, aided greatly by the mass media?s eagerness to cater to such enthusiasm.
