Thousands of zombies, covered in fake blood and face paint, took to the streets for the Halloween event. The record was broken when 1,227 people dressed as zombies gathered in the Old Market Square. They then performed a choreographed zombie dance to Michael Jackson"s "Thriller". Although the dancing began at 5pm but it took officials from Guinness World Records half-an-hour to zerify the numbers. The previous record was set in the US, when 1,124 people attended Monroeville Mall, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in November last year. The eventin Notttingham was part of the GameCity festival.
Iain Simons, festival director, said: "We were staggered by the number of Zombies that turned up to help us beat the attempt. Everyone got into the spirit of the afternoon and the Thriller dance was incredible." "As any self-respecting zombie knows, it"s very important that they come together and dance the Michael Jackson Thriller dance because that"s what zombies do when they congregate" he added. This year is the 25th anniversary of the Thriller video. The 14-minute film was first broadcast in December 1983 and it has become one of the most famous music videos in the world. Margaret Robinson, whohelped arrange the event, said: "It has been fantastic, we have had a huge turnout, far better than we expected, you can"t move for dancing zombies. "We are all zombies tonight, we are all undead, I am covered in blood - very happy." In March the city also set a record for the most Robin Hoods when 1,119 costumed people gathered at the castle.
