The source of the Earth's mystery hum has been found - the low frequency sound is believed to be the result of the collision between two waves going in opposite directions and producing a special "pressure wave" that hits the ocean floor, causingvibrations."Though our ears are too insensitive to perceive it, the planet is constantly generating a low-frequency humming noise, which was first discovered with instruments in 1998."
A theory has been proposed suggesting that a black hole could spin so quickly that it would shed its event horizon producing a "naked" black hole, a phenomenon that has so far never been confirmed nor observed."It is the ultimate cosmic villain: space and time come to an abrupt end in its presence and the laws of physics break down.
Now it seems a "naked" black hole may yet emerge in our universe, after spinning away its event horizon."
Northern Territory resident Alan Ferguson has claimed to have captured video evidence of strange objects flying in the skies above his home and has become something of a celebrity for UFO reports in the area over the last year."A territory UFO spotter says he has video evidence of UFOs flying in the Territory sky.
Alan Ferguson has been claiming for more than 12 months that unidentified flying objects have been circling above his home in Acacia Hills, south of Darwin."
You wake up, but you can’t move a muscle. Lying in bed, you’re totally conscious, and you realize that strange things are happening. There’s a crushing weight on your chest that’s humanoid. And it’s evil. You’ve awakened into the dream world.
This is not the conceit for a new horror movie starring a ragged middle-aged Freddie Prinze Jr., it’s a standard description of the experience of a real medical condition: sleep paralysis. It’s a strange phenomenon that seems to happen to about half the population at least once.
People who experience it find themselves awake in the dream world for anywhere from a few seconds to 10 minutes, often experiencing hallucinations with dark undertones. Cultures from everywhere from Newfoundland to the Caribbean to Japan have come up with spiritual explanations for the phenomenon. Now, a new article in The Psychologist suggests sleep researchers are finally figuring out the neurological basis of the condition.
“This research strongly suggests that sleep paralysis is related to REM sleep, and in particular REM sleep that occurs at sleep onset,” write researchers Julia Santomauro and Christopher C. French of the Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit, Goldsmiths, at the University of London. “Shift work, jet lag, irregular sleep habits, overtiredness and sleep deprivation are all considered to be predisposing factors to sleep paralysis; this may be because such events disrupt the sleep–wake cycle, which can then cause [sleep-onset REM periods].”
In other words, you experience just a piece of REM sleep.

Scientists in the US have made a major advance in their understanding of so-called freak waves. These monster waves present a major risk to ships and offshore platforms. A computer simulation developed by oceanographers in the US could help locate where and when these "rogue" phenomena are most likely to occur. The theoretical study shows that coastal areas with variations in water depth and strong currents are hot spots for freak waves.
The history of seafaring is littered with tales of rogue waves capable of rending ships asunder. A freak wave is one that measures roughly three times higher than other swells on the sea at any one time. These phenomena can measure up to 18m (60ft) - the height of a six-storey building. The new computer simulation was developed by Tim Janssen of San Francisco State University (SFSU) and Thomas HC Herbers of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Their findings are published in the Journal of Physical Oceanography.

A Wesley Chapel, Florida, triangle UFO sighting has been termed a "true unknown" by Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Field Investigator Morgan Beall. The July 17, 2009, sighting has multiple witnesses and the event was videotaped. The object had three points of light. Two of the lights were white, and a third light was blue. The object hovered in the sky, but tilted back and forth, throughout the multi-hour sighting.
The object returned to that same location again on July 25, 2009, and was also videotaped by the witnesses. Video from both the July 17 and July 25 cases are in Beall's video at the top of this page. Note: although the original case is dated July 17, the witness states on the tape that it is July 16. In his investigation, Beall reviewed video taken from other U.S. locations as well as from several different countries that match the video shot in Florida.

Studies of a pterodactyl fossil have shown that the creature had complex wing fibers that would have enabled it to fly with the same precision as modern birds. Flying reptiles dominated the prehistoric skies 220 million years ago."A fossil of a pterodactyl, the earliest known flying vertebrate, shows the creatures had unique and complex wing fibers that enabled them to fly with the precision and control of birds, researchers said on Wednesday.
New research conducted by animal psychologists has found that dogs are capable of a similar level of intelligence to that of a two-year-old child, able to understand up to 250 words and to perform simple mathematical calculations."Researchers have found that dogs are capable of understanding up to 250 words and gestures, can count up to five and can perform simple mathematical calculations."
